The tandem of Sisi Rondina and Jovelyn Gonzaga won the gold medal in the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Futures held at the Subic Bay Sand Court of the Subic Bay Freeport zone..
Rondina and Gonzaga won the championship after defeating the tandem of Gen Eslapor and Dij Rodriguez with scores of 22-24, 21-12, 15-12 in the all-Filipino championship match.
The Rondina and Gonzaga tandem first defeated Israel’s Yahli Ashush and Anita Dave with a 20-22, 21-8, 17-15 score win in the first semifinal match.
“It was worth it!” Rondina promised.
Eslapor and Rodriguez also went through the eye of the needle as needed
run away with a 16-21, 28-26, 15-13 win over Japanese tandem Miyu Sakamoto and Mayu Sawame.
“Three Japanese teams, those are what we beat here. Turned out we’ve become their (Japanese) conquerors,” said Eslapor.
Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) president Ramon “Tats” Suzara praised the success of the Pinay spikers. This is the highest honor the Philippines has earned in a volleyball tournament in recent years.
