A 38-year-old son of the mayor of Samar, who is being sought by different law enforcement units due to his alleged involvement in the gunslay of a barangay chairman, was arrested by authorities dawn Friday (Dec 7) following a raid at the suspect’s hideout in Balihai Subdivision, Imus City in Cavite, police said.
Supt. Nicolas Torre lll, Director of the Samar Police Provincial Office (SPPO), said Francis Bernales Grey, son of San Jorge, Samar town mayor, did not resist arrest.
Torre said Grey was pinpointed by witnesses as the person who shot dead Barangay chairman Romulo Barcoma sometime on February 2013. He said the suspect went into hiding after the incident.
Policemen tracking Grey’s whereabouts got a breakthrough after they received information on the suspect’s location.
Torre said he organized a team from SPPO led by Senior Inspector Joselito Tabada who coordinated with Cavite police and proceeded to Imus City.
Armed with an arrest warrant issued by Judge Feliciano Aguilar of the Regional Trial Court, Gandara, Samar, policemen surrounded Grey’s hideout and cornered him there past 1 a.m.
Torre said Grey occupies the top spot in the list of most wanted persons in Samar province. He said similar manhunt operations have been launched against other wanted persons who remain at large.
Grey is being transported back to Samar by police authorities after his arrest for him to face the justice.
