San Fernando village chief to run for city mayor

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – This city’s president of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) Vilma Caluag on Wednesday announced her plan to run as mayor.

Caluag will run as an independent candidate against 2nd-termer City Mayor Edwin Santiago of the Kapanalig at Kambilan Ning Memalen Pampanga (Kambilan), the ruling local political party in the province.

During Pampanga Press Club’s Talk WidUs, a monthly kapihan hosted by Widus Hotel, Caluag signified her intention to run as city mayor, citing her plans and programs for Fernandinos.

Caluag said if given a chance in the May 2019 polls, she will focus on solving various problems in the city, including garbage collection and traffic.

Caluag, current village chief of Dolores, said her other plans and programs for Fernandinos are scholarship assistance, financial assistance, and medical services, among others.

“Walang mahirap na Fernandino na di matutulungan,” she added.

The lady mayoralty bet also pledged to solve the flooding problem in every barangay in the city.

“We just need to empower all our barangay captains to solve the flooding problem in every barangay,” she stressed.

Calaug added that former City Mayor Oscar Rodriguez and Dr. Rey Aquino are backing her up in her mayoralty bid.

“I think this is Divine Providence, kasi yung dalawang naging mayor ng ating syudad ang tumutulong po sa atin sa ating pagtakbo bilang alkalde ng San Fernando,” she said.

Under Caluag’s line-up for councilors are former city councillors Dein Henson, Jack Calimlim and Jay Cuyugan.
