In celebration of Investor Protection Week (IPW) 2022, the Securities and Exchange Commission- Tarlac Extension Office (SEC-TEO) successfully conducted an Investor Education Roadshow on November 9 at the Police Regional Training Center III in Magalang, Pampanga bearing the theme, “Balik Alindog for Financial Literacy: The Road to being a SEC-SEE (Scam-proof, Equipped, and Empowered) Investor”.
The roadshow which was held simultaneously all over the country aims to capacitate the investing public on the importance of personal finance and investments and help them to better control their funds and finances. Also, this activity introduced red flags of investment scams so they can properly safeguard their money from unauthorized investment schemes.
164 participants from Pampanga State Agricultural University, National Police Training Institute- Region 3 and farmer- organizations of the Department of Agrarian Reform-Pampanga accepted the challenge to become SEC-SEE investors for this year’s roadshow. The topics included Personal Finance and Spotting and Unmasking Investment Scams.
The SEC-TEO partnered with the Police Regional Training Center 3 for this year’s IPW celebration to further increase the awareness and knowledge of the newly recruited police officers on illegal investment activities and to capacitate them in assisting the
SEC in spreading information about investor protection at the grassroots level once deployed in every town and province of Region 3.
“The Commission is serious in its campaign to fight investment scams and protect our investors in the country against illegal investment schemes. This roadshow is an effective way to educate the public about proper investment and financial literacy,” said SEC TEO Director Richard R. Laus.
He also urged the participants to beware of potentially fraudulent investments and consider the risks before investing. He also encouraged them to investigate anyone offering an investment by verifying and checking its legitimacy with SEC.
As part of the observance of this year’s Investor Protection Week, the SEC TEO also initiated a media tour and press conference to disseminate the SEC campaign on investor protection and financial education.
