Sen. Lapid distributes relief goods to Masinloc fishermen

Senator Lito Lapid personally delivered financial assistance and family food packs to fishermen in Masinloc, Zambales who lost their livelihood due to China’s fishing ban in the West Philippine Sea.

Through Lapid’s initiative, over 600 fishermen and market vendors affected by the illegal fishing ban imposed by China in our Exclusive Economic Zone since June 15, 2024, received aid and family food packs from the DSWD.

In addition to the relief goods, the Senator also distributed 3,000 pesos each to fishermen and vendors for their family’s needs. Lapid’s office allocated 1 million pesos in aid for the fishermen in Masinloc, Zambales.

According to municipal data, over 3,000 fishermen in Masinloc have been affected by the fishing ban.

Lapid expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and gracious reception from the people of Masinloc, along with a promise to return with more assistance.

The Senator hopes that even though the financial and relief aid provided may be limited, it will help address their needs.

The beneficiaries expressed their deep appreciation for Lapid’s visit and timely aid.

“This help is a significant support for us fishermen who have lost our jobs and are afraid to fish in Bajo de Masinloc due to China’s threats. Thank you, Sen. Lapid, for your concern and for taking the time to help us. You are a godsend to us, Supremo!” said one beneficiary.

Another beneficiary mentioned that they will not forget Sen. Lapid for the assistance given to market vendors affected by inflation and loss of income due to China’s fishing ban in Panatag Shoal.

“We have almost lost our income. Our family is barely making ends meet. We hope the government can persuade China to lift the fishing ban so we can return to Bajo de Masinloc,” added a fisherman.

Mayor Senyang Lim extended his full support to Lapid, stating that despite being the child of a laundress and stuntman, a veteran actor, and free from corruption, Lapid has served the public for the past 30 years. (PR)
