Senate approves key bills authored by Senator Lito Lapid

The Senate has approved several bills authored by Senator Lito Lapid on the third and final reading on February 3, marking a significant step toward strengthening healthcare, scientific research, and education in the country. Among the approved measures is Senate Bill No. 2838, also known as the Magna Carta of Barangay Health Workers (BHW), which aims to institutionalize better benefits and support for community health workers.

Also passing the final reading is Senate Bill No. 2893, which seeks to establish the Virology Institute of the Philippines (VIP). The proposed institute will serve as the country’s premier research center for virology, playing a crucial role in disease prevention and vaccine development. This measure is part of the government’s broader effort to enhance the country’s resilience against future pandemics.

Another bill, Senate Bill No. 2669, aims to revise the charter of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP). The revisions are expected to modernize the institution’s governance and expand its academic programs, reinforcing its role as a leading public university in the country.

The passage of these bills reflects the Senate’s commitment to addressing key national concerns, including healthcare, scientific research, and education. With these measures moving closer to becoming law, the government hopes to strengthen essential sectors that directly impact Filipinos’ lives.
