All smiles were seen in the faces of the 500 indigent Fernandino senior citizens as they received their social pension amounting to 1,500 during the third quarter LGU-Indigent Senior Citizens Social Pension Payout on September 7, 2018.
The Local Government of San Fernando, headed by Mayor Edwin ‘EdSa’ Santiago, is steadfast in protecting the most vulnerable sector, through social protection together with its City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWD) and Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA).
The said program is giving an opportunity to some Fernandino senior citizens who were not covered in the social pension program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), frail, sickly, and not receiving pension from Social Security System (SSS), Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), and others.
In an interview, Mayor Edwin ‘EdSa’ Santiago stressed that the local government is always willing to support the elders, wherein various social services were intended for them including free medical check-ups in the City Health Office, and free movie pass in cinemas every Monday to ensure and improve their total well-being.
“Isa itong pamamaraan kung paano tayo magpakita ng pagmamahal at respeto sa ating mga nakatatanda. Dahil sila ang dahilan kung sino at ano tayo ngayon. Dito sa Syudad San Fernando, ay walang maiiwan. Sama-sama tayong magbigay ng kalinga sa bawat isa upang sabay-sabay din natin makamit ang kaunlaran,” he said.
