House Speaker and Pampanga 2nd district Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo over the week hosted a seafood lunch for both national and local media in Batang 1st Sasmuan, Pampanga.
Arroyo, along with son comebacking 2nd district Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo and Sasmuan Mayor Nardo Velasco took a 30-minute boat ride from Lubao to Sasmuan for a gift-giving to residents in the area, followed by a luncheon date with the media.
During an interview, Arroyo said she always visits the area to check the needs of her constituents here. Batang 1st in Sasmuan is a far-flung coastal barangay which is only accessible by a boat ride.
SGMA also discussed the House’s shift of focus to its oversight function after it already finished all the Palace-backed legislative agenda.
“We’ve already finished all the legislative agenda that President (Rodrigo) Duterte has asked for during his SONA (State of the Nation Address) so now, we are spending more time on our oversight function,” she said.
She said the House focused on the enactment of laws related to the campaign against illegal drugs and the ease of doing business which, she described, are the ways to bring about prosperity in the country.
“It will mostly be oversight works. If ever, there is still the bicameral ratification but that will also be dependent on the Senate, if they will be able to finish them. We are just waiting for anything that they will return to us,” she said.
