MABALACAT CITY — A free eye checkup will be soon conducted on some 30,000 elementary students here.
The Angeles City Clark Balibago Lions Club (ACCBLC), the City Government of Mabalacat and the City Schools Division of Mabalacat have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Thursday, November 8 to conduct eye checkup on the elementary students under the program ‘Sight for Kids.’
Under the MOU, ACCBLC will conduct a visual acuity test to all elementary students in Mabalacat City. The ‘Sight for Kids’ is a program of the Lions Club International that seeks to provide eye healthcare.
According to Project Chairman Lion Tim Maglaqui, ‘Sight For Kids’ is a school based program that mobilizes the local government and the Department of Education (DepEd) to provide eye healthcare education, high quality vision screenings and referral access to professional eye care and treatment, including eyeglasses.
“The service project has already benefitted 23 million worldwide and counting as Lions continue to partner with governments and educational institutions in their communities such as today here in Mabalacat,” Maglaqui said.
Mabalacat Mayor Marino Morales acknowledged the important role of the Lions Clubs in addressing the health concerns of the people.
For her part, DepEd Division Superintendent Dr. Ma. Irelyn Tamayo committed the support of the city schools division in conducting the ‘Sight for Kids’ project.
“Tayo ay truly blessed dahil may programang ganito ang Lions Club para naman ang mga kaklase o kamag-aral na malabo ang mga mata ay magkaroon ng libreng salamin,” Tamayo said.
