MANILA – The proposed extension of the Skyway from Balingasay to Tambubong is expected to alleviate congestion along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), particularly in high-traffic areas such as Bocaue and Balintawak.
Robin Ignacio, NLEX senior traffic manager, told members of the Central Luzon Media Association Pampanga Chapter during their regular Kapihan ‘Discuss Widus ‘ that the 19-kilometer extension aims to provide an alternative route for motorists and improve overall traffic flow.
The recent opening of the NLEX Tambubong Interchange on March 13 is part of these efforts, offering an alternative access point for travelers going to and from Bocaue and nearby eastern Bulacan towns, including Sta. Maria, Angat, and Pandi.
Ignacio emphasized that NLEX management is actively studying the proposed Skyway extension, as it is seen as a long-term solution to persistent traffic issues in the corridor.
Meanwhile, Pamcham Chairman Rene Romero has been advocating for the extension of the Skyway from Balintawak to Bocaue, arguing that an elevated highway running parallel to NLEX could significantly ease congestion and facilitate faster travel times.
