Volunteers from SM City Marilao rolled up their sleeves and dug in to make the province of Bulacan a hundred trees greener by planting narra saplings at Matictic, Norzagaray in Bulacan.
The recent tree planting initiative is one of the sustainability projects of the mall to contribute to the province’s greening efforts and forest rehabilitation.
Village chief Marcial Lucas said most of Norzagaray’s forests suffered not only from the effects of illegal logging but also from quarrying, leaving mountains bare and prone to landslide.
Lucas also shared the planting activity will not only help in protecting the biodiversity and ecosystem but also in preserving watershed area.
“We are happy that SM City Marilao was the first private company to support our greening advocacy” Chairman Lucas added.
The hilly and open space forest at Matictic, Norzagaray became the home to hundreds of Narra saplings.
These native forest saplings are recommended to help in soil erosion, absorption of carbon dioxide and in rehabilitation of the forest while adding beauty to country side scenery.
The tree planting is one of the many sustainability projects of SM City Marilao for this year. It is also one of the various platforms for employee engagement.
