SM Supermalls has partnered with Mathematics Trainers Guild (MTG) contests since it started in 2006. Recently, the 13th Philippine Sudoku Super Challenge (PSSC) Regional Elimination round was held in SM City Olongapo in cooperation with Department of Education.
A total of 70 participants battled for the following categories: Sudoku Whiz Kid for elementary level; Sudoku Wizard for high school level and Sudoku Grandmaster for college level and professionals.
Millie F. Dizon, SM Supermalls senior vice president for marketing and communications, and Dr. Isidro C. Aguilar, MTG president, inked the new memorandum of agreement at the launch of the 13th PSSC.
The 13th PSSC regional elimination round was held simultaneously on September 29, 2018 at SM Supermalls/ Center in Cagayan De Oro, Dasmarinas (Cavite), Baguio, Cebu, Pampanga, Iloilo, Lucena, Baliwag, Bacolod, Lipa (Batangas), Rosales (Pangasinan), Tarlac, Davao, Naga and Olongapo. Meanwhile, the national finals is set on November 24, 2018 at Skydome, SM North Edsa while the Asia Sudoku Championship, International Competition on January 25-26, 2019 will be held in SM City Clark.
Dr. Roger L. Nuqui, chief education supervisor , school governance and operations division of DepEd Angeles and Harry Uy of MTG were present during the elimination round to give support to participants.
The Philippines has already produced international sudoku contest winners in the past few years through the Philippine Sudoku Super Challenge. With the positive response of partners and schools Sudoku craze has rapidly growing , students from elementary and high school even professionals continue to develop their cravings in number games and puzzles.
The competition aims to develop the reasoning ability of the participants to further improve their mental and critical skills. It also offers an alternative past time among the youth.
