SM Supermalls and SM Foundation through SM City Cabanatuan and SM Megacenter, provides immediate relief assistance to 442 families affected by Typhoon Karding in Cabanatuan City through its Operation Tulong Express (OPTE) program on September 28 (Wednesday).
SM donated Kalinga packs containing rice, water, can goods, and noodles at Lazaro Francisco Integrated School wherein evacuees from flooded Barangay Isla, Rizdelis, Matadero, Nabao, Sta. Arcadia, Sumacab Norte, San Josef and Bonifacio is temporarily residing. Mauro Magtoto assistant mall manager said SM continue to reach out to help affected residence to bounce back and urge everyone to join in extending a helping hand to those who are greatly affected by the calamity.
“This effort forms part of OPTE, a social good program of SM Foundation in collaboration with SM Supermalls and SM Markets to address the immediate needs of communities during calamities and crisis. We will continue to monitor the situation and heed the call promptly where we can. We believe that through our concerted hard work, we can help our fellow Cabanatuenos and other nearby communities to best of our efforts” Magtoto added.
During strong typhoons like Karding and other calamities, SM Malls in these city serves as flood safe parking spaces and temporary shelters for victims of calamities. Charging stations are also made available to the public in instances when there is no electricity in the affected area.
