San Miguel Corporation’s (SMC) MRT-7 Corporation has signed an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Services Agreement with South Korea’s Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL), marking a major step toward the full operation of the long-awaited rail project.
Under the agreement, KORAIL—South Korea’s national railway operator—will provide technical expertise and continue its advisory support to help guide the transition of MRT-7 from construction to commercial operations.

“This partnership with KORAIL is a key step toward delivering MRT-7 to the public,” said SMC President and CEO Ramon S. Ang. “Despite delays—mostly due to right-of-way issues—we’ve stayed focused, with full operations set for 2026.”
Ang added that the collaboration reflects SMC’s commitment not only to build infrastructure that improves mobility for Filipinos, but also to support inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
The MRT-7 project, a 22-kilometer rail line connecting Quezon City to San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion along Commonwealth Avenue and spur development in Metro Manila’s northern corridor.
