Solon urges PrimeWater to cancel contracts nationwide

MANILA, Philippines – Las Piñas Representative Mark Anthony Santos has called on Villar-owned PrimeWater Infrastructure Corp. to cancel all of its contracts with local water districts nationwide, citing years of poor service and mounting complaints from consumers.

Santos, who represents the home turf of the Villar family, said water systems under PrimeWater’s management have deteriorated, with frequent service interruptions and murky supply becoming the norm in several cities and provinces.

“It’s time to return water systems to capable and accountable hands,” Santos said, adding that public utilities should not be run like private monopolies.

Consumer groups and local officials in multiple areas have echoed the sentiment, demanding a full review—or cancellation—of joint venture agreements with PrimeWater.
