Student beep cards with 50% discount out in September

MANILA – Personalized white beep cards for students, which automatically grant a 50% fare discount, will be available starting September, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced on Wednesday, August 13.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said the initiative fulfills President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to make student travel faster and more convenient, particularly on MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2.

“With student beep cards, they no longer need to queue to avail of the discount. Starting September, commuting to school will be faster and easier,” Dizon said during an inspection at the LRT-2 Antipolo Station.

The cards, valid for one year and renewable each school year, will display the student’s name. Students can obtain them on the spot at any station by presenting a valid school ID.

White beep cards for senior citizens and persons with disabilities, which also grant automatic 50% discounts, are already available. The DOTr said the printing process for all white beep cards will now take minutes at ticket counters, down from the previous 5–7 days.
