Subic, Olongapo fisherfolks received five 62-footer fiberglass boats from BFAR

SUBIC, ZAMBALES — The Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) in collaboration with Deputy Speaker Congressman Jay Khonghun awarded five units of 62-footer FRP Handline Fishing Boats and six small motorized boats to various fishermen’s associations in Subic and Olongapo City.

The said program aims to intensify fishing operations in the province and strengthen the fisheries sector as one of the pillars of livelihood in Zambales. The boats are geared towards safer and more efficient operations in deep seas.

Among the recipients are the Subic Hook and Line Fishermen’s Association – Calapandayan, Subic; Calapandayan Fishermen’s Multi-Purpose Cooperative – Subic; Calapacuan Chicago Fishermen’s Line Organization – Subic; Kalaklan Women’s Livelihood Association – Olongapo City; and Kalaklan Women’s Skill Association – Olongapo City.

Present at the awarding ceremony were Subic Mayor Jon Khonghun, Chief of Staff Jan Joshua Khonghun, Board Member Eric Matibag as representative of Governor Jun Ebdane, and officials from the BFAR, Provincial Fisheries Office, and Municipal Agriculture Office.

According to Deputy Speaker Khonghun, the proper use and care of the donated boats is important to serve as a bridge to a better livelihood and a brighter future for fishing families.
