TARLAC CITY – The Provincial Health Office (PHO) advised the public to destroy mosquito breeding sites, and clean stagnant water to prevent the rising cases of dengue in Tarlac.
During the 2nd meeting of Provincial Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee, the PHO bared that Tarlac recorded a total of 792 dengue cases including one fatality from January 1 to February 15 this year, about 144 percent higher compared to the same period in 2024.
“Our health recommendation is to regularly search and clear stagnant or still water to stop the breeding of mosquitoes, and to keep the community safe from dengue,” Tarlac PHO nurse Elle Anne Jurielle Felipe stressed.
Based on the data of Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit, about 31 percent of the cases belong to the 10 to 19 age group, and majority or 53 percent of the cases are male.
Tarlac City recorded the highest number of dengue cases at 207, followed by Concepcion with 131 cases, Capas with 105 cases, Bamban with 48 cases, and Paniqui with 43 cases.
Felipe also reminded Tarlaqueños to use mosquito repellents and wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants.
“Seek early consultation for symptoms of fever, headache and body pain,” she added.
Caused by the bite of an Aedes aegypti mosquito, dengue is characterized by severe headache, high fever, pain behind the eyes, joint pain, rashes and bleeding.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health continues to promote the Alas-Kwarto Kontra Mosquito campaign to bring down the number of dengue cases nationwide.
This campaign involves the active participation of the community in controlling the spread of dengue by cleaning and eliminating mosquito breeding sites every 4:00PM. (CLJD/TJBM, PIA Region 3-Tarlac)
