ANGELES CITY, Philippines – Thousands of supporters of former president Rodrigo Duterte are set to gather at Astro Park in Angeles City 5:30 PM today, calling on the government to bring him back home from The Hague, where he faces trial at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Organizers of the vigil rally said they are expecting a massive turnout, with Duterte loyalists from various provinces joining the demonstration. “President Duterte fought for the Filipino people. Now, we must fight for him,” a supporter said. The gathering is expected to last through the night, with prayers, speeches, and candle-lighting ceremonies.

Duterte’s arrest and extradition to The Hague have sparked outrage among his followers, who insist that he should be tried in the Philippines instead of an international court. Some of his allies in Congress have also questioned the government’s decision to cooperate with the ICC, arguing that it undermines the country’s sovereignty.
Local authorities said they are prepared to manage the crowd and ensure public safety. While no permits for the rally were confirmed, police said they would monitor the situation and prevent any disruption to public order. “We respect the people’s right to assembly, but we urge them to remain peaceful,” an official stated.
As Duterte’s trial progresses, tensions continue to rise among his supporters and critics. Whether today’s rally will pressure the government into taking action remains uncertain, but what is clear is that Duterte’s political influence remains strong, even from afar.
