Mariveles, Bataan — Authorities have suspended trekking activities at Tarak Ridge, a part of Mount Mariveles, following a harrowing accident where a tourist guide accidentally slipped and fell off a cliff, sustaining injuries in the process.
The incident according to various sources in the area occurred at the precipitous edge of the ridge, where the terrain is rugged and challenging. The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, suffered injuries due to the steepness of the cliff. The rescue team faced significant difficulties in reaching the injured guide due to the treacherous conditions.
Village officials of Alas-asin promptly requested helicopter assistance, thru 3rd District Rep. Gila Garcia, to extricate the victim from the dense and steep ravine. The chopper’s deployment aims to expedite the rescue operation and ensure the guide’s safety.
Rescue teams composed of PNP and military personnel, MBDA, and Mariveles MDRRMO continue to closely monitor the situation, keeping a watchful eye on the injured guide until successfully bringing them to safety at the base of the cliff.
Tarak Ridge, with its stunning views of Manila Bay, Corregidor Island, and parts of Manila and Cavite, has long been a popular hiking destination.
However, its challenging trail—composed of craggy surfaces, rugged terrain, and steep ridges—requires caution and preparation. The ridge stands at an elevation of 1,006 meters above sea level, while the peak reaches 1,130 meters above sea level.
