Olongapo City —Two people were arrested after they sold exotic birds to police who pretended to be buyers in separate operations conducted in the town of Dinalupihan on October 20.
In the report gathered from PLt. Mariel Cuizon, OIC of the Maritime Police Station (Marpsta)-Olongapo City, informed that a 23-year-old man from Dalao, Dinalupihan, Bataan who allegedly sold three pieces of Indian Ring Necked Dove at Php800.00 was first arrested at 8:28 in the morning.
The operation was followed by the arrest at around 11:36 am of a 35-year-old woman resident of Lingcoln Heights San Pablo, Dinalupihan, who sold whole finches for Php2,200.00.
It was learned that the arrested suspects made transactions through cellphones to sell such birds to the police who pretended to be buyers.
It is known that such separate operations were launched in front of a convenient store at the junction of Barangay Layac, Bataan by the joint force of the Olongapo City MARPSTA with the Bataan MARPSTA, Dinalupihan Municipal Police Station and representatives from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources DENR-CENRO.
The arrested suspects will both be charged with Violation of Chapter IV Sec 27 of R.A 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act in relation to R.A 10175 (Cyber Crime).
