A Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5 F/A-18 had crashed into the high seas under the Philippine territory while on routine operations, after the aircraft reportedly developed engine trouble Monday (Nov 12).
There was no report of casualties as of press time.
The crew immediately ejected from the aircraft shortly before it dove to the sea, the US Navy Public Affairs said in a statement.
The pilots and crew were rescued safely by USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) search and rescue aircraft.
All occupants of the ill-fated military aircraft were taken back to the ship for evaluation by medical personnel.
Based on an initial assessment, both pilots are in good condition.
The CVW 5 is embarked on board the Ronald Reagan and is currently underway in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations in support of security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
The Ronald Reagan has resumed normal operations.
The crash is under investigation. (US Navy Public Affairs)
