Dr. Edwin Mercado, a US-trained orthopedic surgeon, was sworn in as the new president and CEO of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) on Tuesday, taking over from Emmanuel Ledesma Jr. Mercado’s appointment was officially endorsed by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos.
Mercado brings his medical expertise and leadership experience to the role as he assumes the challenge of overseeing the national health insurance system. His appointment is seen as part of efforts to improve the delivery of healthcare services and address ongoing concerns within PhilHealth.
