PACKING the extra pounds at 146.5 pounds, long reach and height –Jessie Vargas said these will boost his “newfound” punching power.
Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, the fighting senator from the Philippines and Vargas faced off anew during the weigh-in ceremony at the Encore Theater of Wynn Resorts and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Pacquiao tipped the scale at 144.8 pounds while Vargas registered 146.5 pounds. Both weights gave the green light to both pugilists to slug it out for the WBO Welterweight belt on Saturday night (Sunday in the Philippines) at the Thomas & Mack Center, Las Vegas, Nevada.
The taller Vargas has vowed to use his physical advantages against Pacquiao, who emerged out of retirement amid the Senate break.
Pacquiao said he is “happy to be back.”
For his part, Vargas said he would like to become a legend in the boxing world. “The few to have beaten Manny Pacquiao have become legends, and I look forward to becoming a legend myself.”
