Wu Xing’s degustation menu: A must-try, must-wait gustatory experience

I had the rare privilege of being among the members of the Central Luzon Media Association-Pampanga Chapter to experience the latest and soon-to-be-offered menu at Wu Xing Restaurant in Clark Marriott. This new menu is set to be available in April, and let me tell you—it’s something to look forward to!

I’m not a food connoisseur, and I might not give justice in describing the offerings as each one deserves. But I’ll try my best as an ordinary diner who just had a wonderful gustatory experience.

Now, let’s talk about the food:

Roasted Beijing Duck in Traditional Pancake Wrap and Hoisin Sauce

A star of the menu! The skin is crispy, the meat is juicy, and wrapping it in a soft pancake with hoisin sauce, cucumber, and onions makes every bite a delightful mix of sweet, smoky, and savory goodness.

Dim Sum Selection (Scallop Dumpling, Shrimp, Squid Ink, Golden Leaf)

Beautifully crafted dumplings that don’t just look fancy but taste amazing, too. The scallop dumpling is fresh and tender, while the squid ink dumpling adds a unique touch. A great way to start the meal!

Spinach Soup with Fish Maw

This soup is light yet comforting. The spinach gives it a fresh, mild taste, while the fish maw adds a soft, slightly chewy texture. It’s warm and nourishing without being too heavy.

Homemade Tofu in Abalone Sauce with Shimeji Mushrooms

Soft, silky tofu soaked in a rich, flavorful sauce, made even better with shimeji mushrooms. Even if you’re not a tofu fan, this dish might just change your mind!

Roasted Pork Belly with Chinese Mustard

The crispy skin and tender meat make this dish a must-try. But what takes it to the next level is the Chinese mustard—it adds just the right amount of heat and sharpness to balance the richness of the pork.

Wok-Fried Prawn in Oyster Sauce with Jasmine Rice

The prawns are big, fresh, and cooked perfectly, staying juicy and full of flavor. The oyster sauce adds a deep, savory taste, and the jasmine rice soaks up all that deliciousness.

Mango Cream Sago with Pomelo Flakes

A sweet and refreshing way to end the meal! The creamy mango pairs well with the chewy sago pearls, and the pomelo flakes give it a nice citrusy kick. It’s light, cool, and the perfect balance to the rich flavors of the meal.

Final Thoughts

Filipinos are known for considering a meal incomplete without rice. But here’s a tip: try skipping it at the beginning or take it halfway through the meal. Doing this allows you to fully enjoy the rich flavors and textures of each dish without feeling too heavy too soon. Trust me, you’ll appreciate the experience more!

Wu Xing’s upcoming menu is a perfect mix of classic and modern Chinese flavors. The dishes are well-thought-out, flavorful, and satisfying without being overwhelming. Whether you’re dining with family, friends, or colleagues, this is a feast worth trying. When it becomes available in April, don’t miss the chance to experience it for yourself!
