ANGELES CITY — Works of Kapampangan artists will be highlighted during the celebration of the 124th Independence Day in Angeles City.
Dubbed as “Kayadduangan: Suluran ing Amun ning Daratang a Bukas”, the event will feature a visual art exhibit, poetry reading, musical concert, and demonstration of the kulitan or the Kapampangan indigenous script.
Museum of Philippine Social History Museum Guide Aaron Rivera shared that the month-long exhibit will highlight the rich and vibrant social history of the country including the Filipinos’ beliefs, houses and belongings, clothing, food and utensils, art forms and leisure, and relations with families and the community.
“This event also plays a very important role to us as Filipinos because it is also a form of looking back on how we achieved our freedom and independence from the Spanish, Japanese, and Americans. We are seeing here how deep the history of the Philippines is,” he said.
The public may view the exhibit at the Museo ning Angeles, Heritage District beginning 6:00PM on June 12. It runs until July 12.
Meanwhile, Museum of Philippine Social History will be joining other historic sites nationwide in the simultaneous flag raising ceremony for the 124th Independence Day this Sunday.
The event in Angeles City will be led by outgoing Senator Franklin Drilon. He will be joined by local officials.
“For the last two years [2020-2021], we have carefully prepared for the celebration. We have followed the COVID-19 protocols, and we had a minimal number of participants. For this year, however, the celebration will be bigger in comparison to what happened during the last two years, but we will still follow the protocols,” Rivera stated.
This year’s celebration carries the theme “Kalayaan 2022: Pagsuong sa Hamon ng Panibagong Bukas (Kalayaan 2022: Rise Towards the Challenge of a New Beginning)”.
It underscores the country surviving the struggles brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, and rising against the challenges under the new normal setting.
