18 cops killed, 45 wounded in CL drug war

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – A top official of Police Regional Office 3 yesterday said 63 policemen assigned in various police units in Central Luzon were killed and wounded during anti- illegal drug operations under the PNP’s “Oplan Double Barrel” since 2016.

PRO3 Brigadier General Matthew Baccay said the war on illegal drugs has not solely taken its toll on drug pushers and users but also men in uniform.

Records showed that 62,516 were arrested while 2,423 drug personalities were killed from 2016 to date.

Out of the 63 policemen, 18 were killed and 45 were wounded at the start of the implementation of the “Oplan Double Barrel.”

A total of 820,849.15 grams of shabu and 1,193,189.98 grams of marijuana were seized since the start of the operation.

“It pains us to know that some of our members were harmed and even killed in line with our diligent efforts to stop the proliferation of illegal drugs. But the primary duty of men and women in uniform across the region and across the country is to keep our communities safe, secure and drug-free,” Baccay said. (Rudy Abular)
