1st BBI inter-barangay amateur basketball league playoffs

BBI President Dr. Irineo ‘Bong’ Alvaro Jr. formally fires up the opening of the first BBI Inter Barangay Amateur Basketball League at the Angeles University Foundation Sports and Cultural Center, on Sunday.

Joined by 30 teams from respective barangays in Angeles City, the basketball play-offs aims to veer youth from bad vices.

“Ang isa pang esensya nito is to develop camaraderie and sportsmanship. Ang simpleng definition lang po ng pagiging sports sa anumang larangan ng palakasan ay respect to other players. Matalo ka man ay dapat yung respetuhin at kung nanalo ka naman be magnanimous,” Alvaro added.

Present in the league opening are Angeles City Vice Mayor Bryan Matthew Nepomuceno and barangay captains.

Joining Alvaro in the ceremonial toss is former Adamson University and Ginebra player Marlou ‘Skyscraper’ Aquino.

“Napakaswerte niyo at may isang Sir Bong na tumutulong sa mga basketball players ng bawat barangay ng Angeles City,” Aquino said.

He also highlighted the upcoming Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League initiated by Senator Manny Pacquiao.

Prizes at stake are P50,000, P30,000 and P20,000 worth of cash and trophies. For the barangay captain level is P100,000, P70,000, P50,000 for first, second and third place respectively.
