2 dead, 4 hurt in Apalit fluvial parade

Two unidentified devotees have died while four others were hurt on Tuesday during the annual fluvial procession or “Libad” for Apung Iru along the stretch of the Pampanga River in Apalit, Pampanga.

Pampanga Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda has confirmed the death of the two participants to the fluvial parade.

Based on reports, the boat’s steel holding the small pennants or “banderitas” came in contact with an electrical wire. Six devotees were initially reported hurt in the incident.

The victims were rushed to the hospital but two were pronounced dead.

The Apung Iru fluvial festivities had been cancelled for two years during the COVID-19 pandemic. Several participants have died in previous fluvial parades in the past.

The Apung Iru fluvial parade is celebrated for three days, every June 28, 29, and 30 each year.
