284 coops in Central Luzon ‘delisted’

CLARK FREEPORT – At least 284 multi-purpose cooperatives in Central Luzon have been struck out from the rosters of the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) due to alleged rules violations, key official announced Tuesday.

CDA Region 3 Director Marietta Wang said 72 of the said cooperatives have been dissolved or have voluntarily disbanded their group for non-performance. “Maybe they are no longer interested in doing business as cooperative.”

Wang said there were 2,633 registered cooperatives in the region and 35 of which are listed in the large-scale cooperative billionaire and millionaires categories.

“A cooperative can be delisted due to major offenses. Just like what happened in Candaba, Pampanga where a farmers’ cooperative engaged in rice smuggling and another group allegedly involved in the sale of permits,” Wang told reporters.

The CDA director was among Pampanga Press Club guests during the August edition of the News@Hues held at the Park Inn by Radisson SM City Clark.

Wang said she is endorsing several cooperatives for the national search of outstanding cooperatives to be held in National Capital Region comes October this year. “We have cooperatives that would qualify for the national search specifically the billionaires and millionaires categories.”

October is also ‘Cooperative Month’, said Wang.

Just recently, Wang said the San Jose Del Monte Savings and Credit Cooperative and St. Martin of Tours Credit and Development Cooperatives bagged the most outstanding cooperatives in Region 3 besting other group in the same category.

The Bagong Barrio Multi-Purpose Cooperative and Mahori Multi-Purpose Cooperatives were named outstanding coops in the millionaire category region-wide.

Named as outstanding medium-scale cooperatives are Limay Multi-Purpose Cooperatives; San Isidro –San Roque Credit Cooperative and Sto. Nino de Parada Multi-Purpose Cooperatives.

Angeles City Cooperative Development Council was also cited in the Independent City Level as outstanding coops. –Jess Malabanan
