3 ‘narco generals’ face probe

A pall of gloom prevailed when three generals linked to illegal drugs reported to Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa over the week before formally being turned over to the National Police Commission to face a probe.

“(I) want to cry with them,” said Dela Rosa, who did not divulge details of their conversation. “All other details sa aming usapan, sa ’min na lang ‘yun. Basta malungkot sila.”

The Napolcom will conduct the investigation on the three generals — Director Joel Pagdilao and Chief Superintendents Bernardo Diaz and Edgardo Tinio.

Dela Rosa said the three aired their sides during the meeting. It was a “purely intimate and personal” meeting.

The three were upperclassmen of Dela Rosa at the Philippine Military Academy. They will be accorded due process, according to Interior and Local Government Secretary Ismael Sueno.

Aside from the three active generals, two other retired officials, Deputy Director General Marcelo Garbo Jr. and former Chief Superintendent now Daanbantayan, Cebu Mayor Vicente “Vic” Loot, were also identified by President Rodrigo Duterte when he spoke during the 69th anniversary of the Philippine Air Force at the Clark Freeport Zone.
