6 Clark airport passengers dead in NLEX mishap

Six people who were on their way to the Clark International Airport to catch an evening flight met their tragic death along the North Luzon Expressway in Apalit, Pampanga on Saturday afternoon.

Superintendent Elmer Decena, of the Apalit, Pampanga police, said the road accident happened when the tire of a northbound Hyundai H100 semi-van blew out at the NLEX viaduct in Barangay Tabuyoc.

At least nine other passengers were hurt and currently being treated in various hospitals in Pampanga province. The van was carrying 15 passengers mostly Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) were on their way to catch the 7pm flight at the Clark airport.

Decena said the wayward van hit a truck and flipped to its side. He said some of the passengers were thrown out of the vehicle and underneath the viaduct.

Identities of those who have died were not immediately available, but their relatives have been already informed, according to authorities.
