LUBAO, Pampanga–More than 600 applicants have been hired on the spot in the “mega job fair” held by the Municipality of Lubao, Pampanga thru the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) at the Municipal Gym on May 5.
PESO Manager Raquel Lugtu said that by 3 p.m. on that day, job applicants reached 1,347 individuals vying for slots in 25 local and nine overseas companies that have fielded headhunters in the fair.
Of the total number of applicants, close to half of them–656 in total–were immediately hired by the firms for their labor force.
“This job fair surpassed our target of 20 percent hired-on-the-spots. We were able to assist the 48.76 percent of the applicants to land jobs right there and then,” Lugtu said.
The job fair was conducted in time for the town’s Sampaguita festival, which was conceived to promote the sampaguita flower that is giving livelihood to thousands of Lubeñans.
The Mega Job Fair, Lugtu said, is a priority project of Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab.
Guests during the event were Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Deputy Administrator Jocelyn Turla-Sanchez, Manpower Registry Division Chief Corazon D. Ortizo and other personnel; Romeo David of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration; Municipal Administrator Elizalde Bernal; and, barangay PESO coordinators.
