8 new Covid-19 cases reported in Baguio

BAGUIO CITY – Eight new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases were reported Saturday here, bringing the city’s total to 26.

The four are confined at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center where five of the remaining Covid-19 patients remain under the care of hospital staff.

The four medical workers, who were earlier reported, are in stable condition, the city information office chief Aileen Refuerzo said.

Refuerzo said the four new cases include two overseas Filipino workers (OFW) both from the United States and residents of Barangay Dominican and La Trinidad, Benguet; an employee of the Baguio Country Club, and an eight-day-old baby now at the Pines City Doctors Hospital.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong has ordered for appropriate measures to be undertaken on medical interventions, contract tracing, quarantine, and disinfection to contain the further transmission of the virus.

He also ordered the lockdown of the villages and subdivisions where the eight new cases are residing.

Refuerzo said BGHMC staff, led by Medical Chief Dr. Ricardo Ruñez, has started all necessary measures to trace all contacts and are preparing their hospital staff for testing.

“We will start disinfecting wards, we have advised to temporarily stop admissions and we are communicating with other hospitals on this matter. We will continue with the triage,” Ruñez said.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in Baguio rose to 26, eight of these are medical health care workers including three doctors. Physician Manuel Kelly was discharged last April 13.

Recoveries in Baguio remain high with 12 of 26 patients or 46.15 percent, with one mortality.

The Inter-agency Task Force has recommended that Benguet, including Baguio, will remain under an enhanced community quarantine until May 15 with its status subject to change by April 30. (PNA)
