Pampanga gives P123M to senior citizens

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – At least 1,230 senior citizens aged 95 and above in Pampanga have received a total of P123 million in one-time cash incentives under the Pineda administration, years ahead of the implementation of the Expanded Centenarian Act of 2024.

The provincial government, through Provincial Ordinance No. 683, began granting P100,000 and congratulatory certificates to eligible seniors as early as 2015. The initiative, spearheaded by the mother-son tandem of then Governor Lilia Pineda and Vice Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda, is considered among the first provincial programs in the country to reward pre-centenarians.

From 2022 to 2024 alone, 585 seniors benefited from the program, with Districts 3 and 4 recording the highest numbers. The majority of recipients were women. In instances where beneficiaries passed away before receiving the aid, the ordinance allowed families to process the amount as part of the estate.

During simple turnover ceremonies, Governor Delta personally handed checks and wheelchairs to elderly recipients. Vice Governor “Nanay” Lilia Pineda often shared moments of affection with beneficiaries and reminded families to cherish their elders. “Ikayu pu ing inspirasyun da king pamibie-bie,” she said.
