MANILA, Philippines – It’s official: Bikebakan is back.
The fabled Tour of Luzon returns to the national stage on April 24, 2025, with 117 riders from 17 teams—including four international squads—kicking off “The Great Revival” edition in Paoay, Ilocos Norte.
Staged last in 2019 under the Le Tour de Filipinas banner, this year’s comeback is headlined by an eight-stage, 1,074.90-kilometer route cutting through seven provinces in Northern and Central Luzon. The race culminates with a brutal summit finish inside Camp John Hay in Baguio City on May 1.
A Historic Comeback
Presented by Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), DuckWorld PH, and Cignal TV, the 2025 Tour of Luzon marks a renewed push to revive the country’s most iconic road race, first held in 1956.
“The legendary Tour of Luzon is back,” said DuckWorld PH president Patrick “Patò” Gregorion. “This is more than a race—it’s a return to our roots in Philippine cycling.”
MPTC’s Chief Regulatory Officer Arrey Perez added, “From excitement to the extreme, we’re reviving a summer sports tradition. This is the best of Philippine road cycling.”
The Route and the Stakes
The tour begins with the 190.70-km Stage 1 (Paoay-Paoay via Pagudpud) and continues with a team time trial to Vigan, winding through Vigan, San Juan (La Union), Agoo, Clark, Lingayen, and Labrador.
The grand finale—the queen stage on May 1—will see riders grind up 172.53 kilometers from Lingayen to Camp John Hay, featuring the punishing 32-km Kennon Road climb with gradients of over 20%.
A total of P1 million awaits the team champion along with the Tour’s perpetual trophy, while the individual general classification winner will receive P500,000 and a custom-crafted trophy. The revived “Eagle of the Mountain” title will go to the rider who conquers Stage 8’s mountain-top finish.
The Contenders
Headlining the peloton are the Philippines’ four UCI Continental teams:
7-Eleven Cliqq Roadbike Philippines
Standard Insurance Philippines
Go For Gold Philippines
Victoria Sports Pro Cycling Team
They’ll be joined by international squads:
CCN Factory HK (Hong Kong)
Malaysia Pro Cycling
Bryton Racing Team (Taiwan)
Gapyeong Cycling Team (South Korea)
Also in the mix: local contenders including Excellent Noodles, DReyna Orion Cement, MPT Drive Hub, and regional teams from Visayas and Mindanao.
With the race’s rich history and a grueling course, all eyes will be on who survives the mountains and lifts the iconic trophies in this high-stakes return to Philippine cycling glory.
