Fake ‘Nanay volunteers’ dupe man, fail to settle hospital bill

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – A man was gypped of P20,000 by two women who vowed to facilitate the release of a patient through their
connections with the officials of Jose B. Linigad Memorial Hospital in this city.

Julio Esguerra, Jr., 34, of Florida Residence, Barangay Saguin, City of San Fernando, identified the suspects as Rodalyn Yumul, 34, and
Digna Ignacio, 52, both of Sitio Daang Bakal, Bgy. Dau, Mabalacat City.

Esguerra said the suspects told him they will facilitate the release and settle hospital bills of his younger sister in exchange of P20,000.

Esguerra did not mention the case of his younger sister.

Esguerra said the suspects introduced themselves as “Nanay Volunteers” when they first met on March 16. Both bragged their connection with the governor saying they can easily settle and facilitate his hospital problem.

“The two women claimed they were workers of the governor, both even flashed their identification cards apparently to convince me.” said
Esguerra.

Esgurra said he grabbed the offer as he cannot afford to pay his sister’s hospital bill amounting to P147,000.

On March 22, Esguerra said the suspects showed up at his residence where he handed the money. He said the suspects asked for one week to process his sister’s release from hospital.

Esguerra said he became suspicious when the suspects failed to deliver their promise after two weeks that prompted him to seek assistance
of the police authorities who arrested Yumul and Ignacio.

During investigation, Esguerra said the suspects admitted the crime. They signed a promissory note in front of the policemen citing they
are going to pay Esguerra.

The suspects were released from police custody after both camp agreed to settle the case amicably.
