SUBIC BAY FREEPORT ZONE – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), in partnership with the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), has completed the new Upper Binictican Bridge in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.
DPWH Bataan 1st Assistant District Engineer Regina Agustin disclosed that the P44.09-million bridge spans 22.8 meters in length and 7.32 meters in width.
The structure features a Reinforced Concrete Deck Girder, reinforced concrete abutments, and a foundation system made up of mat and spread footings—all designed to ensure long-term durability and accommodate modern traffic demands.
“On behalf of District Engineer John Paolo Tan, we express our deepest gratitude to everyone whose dedication and hard work made this project a success,” Agustin said.
Meanwhile, SBMA Deputy Administrator for Public Works and Technical Services Group Marco Estabilo explained that the original bridge, which builders constructed in the 1960s, had severely deteriorated by 2020.
This prompted a joint replacement effort with DPWH to address safety and transportation concerns.
The new bridge now enhances connectivity and safety for residents, including indigenous communities who rely on the route for daily travel.
It also features a 1.11-meter sidewalk to provide a safe and convenient space for pedestrians. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3-Zambales)
