CABANATUAN CITY – The Department of Health (DOH) Central Luzon Center For Health Development (CLCHD) is urging the public to observe National Poison Prevention Week from June 22 to 28 by being more aware of common sources of poisoning at home.
Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center (BataanGHMC) Consultant For Toxicology Unit John Paul Ner said that cleaning products stored under the sink or in low cabinets can easily be reached by children—this is a dangerous practice that must be avoided.
He highlighted that even medicines and multivitamins can be mistaken as candy by children, so they should always be labeled, stored properly, and kept out of reach.
Ner also stressed that pesticides, poisonous houseplants, and expired or poorly prepared food can also lead to poisoning if not handled carefully.
Furthermore, DOH CLCHD continuously promotes that poison prevention starts at home—parents, household members, and even children must be educated and aware of proper storage, labeling, and emergency response.
Toxicology centers across the country offer 24/7 free consultations and training for both healthcare workers and the general public.
