CABANATUAN CITY – The Department of Health (DOH) Central Luzon Center for Health Development (CLCHD) is reminding the public to take precautions against influenza-like illnesses, especially as flu cases usually peak from July to October.

DOH CLCHD Medical Officer Angelica Joy Diaz said influenza is a contagious respiratory infection caused by viruses type A, B, or C that can lead to severe illness in high-risk groups.

Common symptoms include fever, fatigue, sore throat, headache, body aches, runny nose, and in some cases, vomiting and diarrhea, especially among children.

She advised the public to avoid crowded places, stay home from school or work when sick, and minimize close contact with individuals who have influenza.

“Getting the annual flu vaccine between April to June remains the most effective way to avoid infection,” Diaz added.

Initial management includes rest, hydration, nutritious food, and early use of antiviral medication like oseltamivir within 48 hours of symptom onset. (CLJD/MCAL,PIA Region 3-Nueva Ecija GIP)
