
ANGELES CITY – Youth creativity and patriotism took center stage during the “Sining Para sa Karagatan ng West Philippine Sea (WPS) Atin ito: WPS Victory Day Exhibit and Poster Making Contest,” held at SM City Clark, in line with the 9th anniversary of the 2016 Permanent court of Arbitration Ruling on the South China Sea.
The event was organized by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Northern Luzon Command through the 1stCivil Relations Group (CRG) in partnership with the various national government agencies and the provincial government of Pampanga to highlight the youth’s vital role in advocating and defending national sovereignty through art.
1st CRG Commander Col. Jess Pilar said the contest was not just a showcase of talent, but a movement to foster nationalism among the youth.
“We need to ignite the spirit of nationalism among our youth. Their art is a reflection of their understanding and deep concern for our country’s sovereignty,” he pressed.
“This is our way of showing unity and strength as Filipinos. The youth are our future leaders, and it’s crucial that they understand and embrace their role in nation-building-starting with protecting what is rightfully ours,” the official added.
Christine Joy Miranda of Bamban, Tarlac bested 94 other participants from the region to win first place in the competition, receiving ₱10,000 cash prize, a medal, and a certificate of recognition.
Meanwhile, Aliah Ayriz Jimenez from Good Samaritan Colleges placed second and won ₱5,000, while Valino Lactaotao of Tarlac National High School secured third place and was awarded ₱ 3,000.
Special recognition was given to Angelo Molo for Best Entry Award; Ana Leonila Lynn Gayoso for the Juror’s Choice Award; and 7-year-old Mariah Felissah Villanueva, who received the Junior Artist Award for her early display of patriotism through art.
Aside from the poster-making contest, the event also featured a photo exhibit, short film screenings, advocacy booths, and the distribution of educational materials on the WPS and AFP recruitment programs.
Organizers emphasized that events like these aim not only to commemorate Philippines’ legal victory but also deepen public understanding of maritime rights and responsibilities, especially among the youth.
The West Philippine Sea Victory Day celebration echoed the collective commitment of Central Luzon communities to uphold national interest and maritime security through education, creativity, and solidarity. (MJSC/MAGP-PIA 3 GIP)
