ANGELES CITY, Philippines – Barangay Balibago Chairperson Joseph Ponce on Tuesday vowed to go after non-residents who have been illegally dumping garbage in the commercial district of Balibago.
Ponce said the barangay is now receiving 35 tons of waste daily—representing 11% of the total garbage volume in Angeles City.
“Kailangan po nating paigtingin ang kampanya sa basura dahil ang Balibago ang show window po ng Angeles,” Ponce said.
While Barangay Balibago is authorized to dispatch nine garbage trucks per day to the EcoProtect Waste Management facility in Porac, Pampanga, Ponce noted that the excessive volume is partly due to outsiders bringing in waste.
“Huhulihin po natin ang mga nagtatapon ng basura dito sa ating barangay na hindi taga-Balibago, lalo na po ‘yung mga nakacolum colum na nakabisikleta,” he added, referring to people using bicycles to transport and dispose of garbage within the barangay.
To strengthen enforcement, Ponce announced the formation of a Bantay Basura Brigade, a dedicated team that will monitor dumping hotspots and apprehend violators.
The move is part of a broader campaign to clean up Balibago and uphold its reputation as a prime commercial zone in Angeles City.
