In line with the observance of International Earth Day, the City Government of San Fernando Pampanga through its Environment and Natural Resources Office conducted over the weekend clean up drive on its waterways.
Under the clean-up drive dubbed “Pagkalinga sa Kalikasan at Kapaligiran, Kaligtasan ng Buhay ay Makakamtan,” all major waterways of this city were cleaned by personnel from the city government headed by Mayor Edwin D. Santiago. Other participants include the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police, Department of Public Works and Highways, academe sector, and other civic society group.
The operation was held in areas which include portions of San Fernando River (Baluyut Bridge), Baritan Creek, Sta. Teresita Creek (along Mc Arthur Highway), Magdalena Creek, Dolores Creek, Sampaloc Creek, and Sto. Niño.
According to CENRO Chief Engr. Anele David, this activity is conducted in the city every year. She explained that clean-up drive aims to help and save the environment.
“Our aim is to save the environment and help it, it [clean-up drive] is held regularly in preparation for the rainy season. We ensure that all creeks are in good conditions, we see to it that they won’t overflow or clogged” she said.
For his part, Mayor Santiago said that environmental protection and preservation is among the top priority programs his administration.
“Having a clean and peaceful city will lead us to further development” said Mayor Santiago.
