MANILA, Philippines – Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson on Thursday warned that the public will continue to lose if those behind the P118.5-billion ghost flood control projects are not held accountable.
Lacson stressed that while the massive economic loss is already a crime in itself, the bigger injustice is the lack of punishment for officials and contractors who allegedly pocketed funds meant for critical infrastructure.
“Lugi at talo ang taumbayan kapag walang naparusahan,” Lacson said, adding that the government’s credibility is on the line if it fails to go after those responsible.
The senator called on investigative agencies to pursue cases vigorously and ensure that taxpayers’ money is recovered.
