BALER, Aurora – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthen disaster response capabilities and expand social services in Aurora.
During his recent visit to the province, DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian assessed local needs, reviewed disaster preparedness measures, and explored ways to enhance social protection and livelihood programs for vulnerable families, including those in remote barangays and indigenous communities.
In a meeting with provincial leaders, Gatchalian discussed additional assistance for crisis response, livelihood initiatives, and the allocation of space for prepositioned relief goods to ensure faster delivery of aid during calamities.
He likewise assured support for the establishment of a warehouse and other local government projects aimed at strengthening service delivery and sustaining community livelihood in the long term.
Among immediate measures tackled was the release of additional funds for the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program, which provides financial support to families in emergencies and serves as a safety net for the most vulnerable.
Meanwhile, Gatchalian met with beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) from various towns, who shared their experiences, challenges, and suggestions for further improving the program.
The beneficiaries recounted how 4Ps not only provided financial aid but also boosted their knowledge and confidence, enabling them to plan their families better and prioritize their children’s education.
The visit underscored DSWD’s dual role of delivering immediate relief assistance while advancing long-term development through livelihood, capacity-building, and resilience programs.
Gatchalian emphasized that these efforts aim not only to safeguard Aurora against disasters but also to build self-reliant communities that contribute to the government’s broader goal of inclusive national development. (CLJD/MAT, PIA Region 3-Aurora)
