Groups set September 21 rally vs corruption

MANILA, Philippines – Civil society groups and advocates have called for a massive rally against corruption on September 21, 2025, coinciding with the anniversary of the declaration of martial law by Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

In a letter dated September 4, organizers led by Dr. David San Juan, convenor of the Taumbayan Ayaw sa Magnanakaw at Abusado Network Alliance (TAMA NA), and Niña Fegi, coordinator of the Panatang Luntian Coalition, invited the public to a people’s meeting on September 10 in Quezon City to finalize plans.

The groups said the rally aims to demand accountability over the unfolding scandal involving billions in flood control projects allegedly cornered by favored contractors. They warned that unchecked corruption could “drain public coffers and destroy vulnerable communities.”

Organizers said they chose September 21 for its historical weight, marking not only repression but also plunder during the Marcos dictatorship. They added that the date serves as a reminder of people’s resistance and triumph against abuse of power.

“We believe our fight today is not just against thieves in government, but for a future where honesty, accountability, and the power of the people prevail,” the letter read.

The call was extended to students, workers, professionals, social media influencers, and organizations to join the rally and “turn outrage into action.”
