Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN) has mobilized relief assistance for communities affected by the recent magnitude 7.8 Mindanao earthquake through the distribution of relief packs and water to over 3,000 individuals in Sarangani. The relief operations program was conducted in partnership with One Meralco Foundation (OMF).
MGEN extended a total amount of Php 800,000.00 to support relief and recovery efforts for communities affected by the Mindanao earthquake. The assistance includes Php 300,000.00 raised through an employee donation drive, with the company matching employee contributions. Proceeds were turned over to OMF to help deliver much-needed assistance to affected communities. MGEN’s thermal business arm contributed Php 500,000.00 to the Conrado and Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation, Inc. (CLAFI) to support localized relief operations and humanitarian response efforts in Sarangani.
The response was coordinated to help address immediate needs on the ground, including access to basic food items and clean drinking water. It also reflects MGEN’s continuing commitment to support communities during times of urgent need, particularly in areas where its subsidiaries and business affiliates operate.
In Sarangani, MGEN has a 50-percent equity stake in Alsons Thermal Energy Corporation (ATEC), a Mindanao-based power generation holding company that wholly owns Sarangani Energy Corporation (SEC).
“Our priority is to help address the immediate needs of families affected by the Sarangani earthquake. We are grateful to our employees and partners for extending support where it is needed most,” said MGEN President and CEO Emmanuel V. Rubio.
MGEN remains committed to supporting communities during times of need – guided by its mission of powering a better tomorrow for the people and communities it serves.
