The 3rd International Conference on Dengue Prevention and Control (Zika, Malaria and Japanese Encephalitis) will be held at the Holy Angel University in Angeles City on May 19, 2017.
A continuing project of the Rotary Action Group (RAG) on Dengue initiated by Rotary International President D. K. Lee in 2009, the event follows two earlier conferences — at the University of Phayao in Thailand on February 17-18, 2013 and the University of Technology in Malaysia on September 20-21, 2014. The event will be held in cooperation with the Rotary International District 3790 and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).
The Philippine event is organized by the Rotary Club of Clark Field headed by Pres. Josie D. Henson whose husband RI
Past District Governor Ruben G. Henson Jr. is the overall Chairman. Dr. Henson also chairs the RAG Dengue Control Committee formed in Bangkok by a group of Rotary leaders from East Asia, the region with the highest Dengue cases and deaths.
The conference is especially dedicated to Pampanga’s Barangay Health Workers
(BHWs) whose attendance is being sponsored by their Mayors, supported by the Governor and Congressional District Representatives.
This is the first time that the conference goes down to the grassroots by stressing the participation of urban and rural BHWs who are the foot soldiers in the national fight against Dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases. Other attendees are Rotarians from District 3790 and public and private health personalities.
They will be addressed by an international panel of speakers composed of HE Rodrigo Do Amaral Souza – Ambassador of Brazil to the Philippines, Rotary Past District Governors Dr. Virachai Jamroendararasame of Thailand, PDG Ir John Cheah Kam Loong of Malaysia, Assistant Secretary of Health Dr. Maria Francia M. Laxamana, Department of Health Director IV Dr. Enrique A. Tayag, Department of Health Director III Dr. Ma. Joyce U. Ducusin and Infectious Disease Consultant Dr. Lyzette S. Pangilinan of the Philippines.
