CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Gov. Lilia “Nanay” Pineda expressed her concern over the recent siege in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur where military operations against the Islamic militant Maute group are ongoing.
She said this during the inauguration and blessing of the new City of San Fernando Police Station building in Diosdado P. Macapagal Government Center, Maimpis, here.
Governor Pineda said that she was saddened by the situation in Marawi and requested everyone to pray for the safety of the civilians living there.
“We are all Filipinos that is why it is saddening to hear this news. Let us pray that these sad events would come to an end so that we can already attain peace,” she said.
The governor made the statement following the military operations happening in Lanao del Sur to neutralize the militant group, which led to an attack on school buildings and other establishments to scatter terror upon residents.
President Rodrigo Duterte has declared Martial Law in all of Mindanao’s 27 provinces and 33 cities following clashes between government forces and members of the Maute group last May 23 that left two soldiers and a police officer dead, and injured 12 others.
