The month of June is focused on preserving and protecting Mother Earth as the City Government of San Fernando observes Philippine Environment Month with the theme “Connecting People to Nature.”
This year’s celebration kicked off June 5 which also marks World Environment Day.
Highlight of the activity is the presentation of the newly hailed Lakan ning Kalikasan Renver Ryan Sicat and Mutya ning Kalikasan Jhackie Brendan Garcia, respectively.
The City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) will also hold City Solid Waste Management Board Meeting on June 8; City of San Fernando Water Resources Management Board Meeting on June 15; and Seminar on Toxic Chemicals in Cosmetics and Household Products on June 20.
In an effort to improve the air quality in the city, there will be “Bantay Tambutso” Random Vehicle Testing along Jose Abad Santos Avenue Road on June 8 and 22.
On June 23, CENRO will host the Environment Month program featuring the Eco-Fashion Competition.
More than 1,500 seedlings will be planted during the citywide Arbor Day celebration on June 25.
This year’s Barangays that demonstrated best practices on Ecological Solid Waste Management will be awarded on the 30th.
The celebration will culminate with a three-day Fernandino YES-O Network Environmental Youth Camp from July 7 to 9.
In his speech, Mayor Edwin ‘EdSa’ Santiago encouraged every Fernandino to do their share in conserving the natural resources by participating in the different activities launched by CENRO.
“You can show your love for the environment even in the simplest ways like adopting the practice of reuse, reduce and recycle. The time to act is now,” Santiago added.
